Gregor the Overlander (Underland Chronicles)

Gregor the Overlander - Suzanne Collins I could of read this book in one sitting, but I wanted to savor it. To state it simply, it was a magical adventure without all the magic. I felt transported, which I think is the main goal in any adventure/fantasy book. The characters were so engaging that by the end I found myself getting teary in the public location that I was reading :S
The idea of an underground world with giant cockroaches, rats, bats and spiders may seem a little strange but it is so perfectly executed that you find yourself wishing you could be sucked down an air vent and go on an amazing adventure just like Gregor.
A book for all ages, but probably more especially 7-13yr old boys. It's the kind of book parents would be happy for their kids to read and kids will have a great time reading, which is growing less and less of the case in young adult and children's books these days.
Though, after the first couple of pages I forgot that this was a kids book completely and was simply along for the ride.
The second book is now on order and it can't get here soon enough.
