I tend to choose the books I read for the most part from reviews of other authors I love and friends who make recommendations. This was one of those books and as such I feel it may have had an unfair disadvantage as I was expecting it to be brilliant. It wasn't. It was ok.
To be more specific, I didn't feel transported into Clary's world. I didn't really identify with any of the characters. I didn't really feel like I believed much of the storyline.
Having said that, it was easy to read and follow and entertaining enough to stay onto the end. I even bought the second in the series just so I could find out the end of the story with Clary and Jace.
Obviously though lots of people who aren't me love and rave about this story so I wouldn't write it off from my 'meh' review. Just maybe don't delve in with your expectations too high like I did.
