Discernment is something that I think we talk about in Christian circles as a side issue, or something that happens almost by accident as we progress in our faith. Tim Challies asserts that this should be a much more important topic in our lives... if not the most essential discipline as we grow in our knowledge and love of God.It is a comprehensive, to say the least, and challenging book that has left me with a thorough understanding of the biblical definition and importance of discernment. But it is not just academic in nature, but intensely practical as well. The entire last chapter is a step by step process to using scripture to discern the biblical truth of an idea or proposition and to act on that truth (or falsehood if it may be).
I have been recommending this book left, right and centre. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.
I feel challenged to read and cling to scripture all the more and grow in my own discernment. I would call this a must read for any and every Christian, new or old.
